5 Reasons why Surfers are Always Happy
You might have read already that surfers are always happy. You might have experienced this on your skin already. Or your might know some surfer who seems not to worry much about anything and you ask yourself…why does she/he always look so laid back and happy?
Well, at Wavy Surf Camp we are happy surfers and we would like to explain you a bit more about this fact. We also want to encourage you experience surfing yourself so you can understand even better!
- HORMONS RACE
Surfers release a lot of adrenaline and endorphins while they are riding the waves. These hormones cause an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. A surge of adrenaline makes you feel very alive. Endorphins resemble opiates in their chemical structure and have analgesic properties. This means while riding a wave you get very intense feelings plus natural healing for any pains you could have!
2. CONTACT WITH THE OCEAN
Many studies have concluded that spending time at the ocean has a positive impact on our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Spending time by the sea can improve mood levels and genuinely make you feel more alive. Our affinity for water is even reflected in the near-universal attraction to the color blue. Marketing research has found that people tend to associate blue with qualities such as calmness, openness, depth and wisdom. With the human body made up of around 70% water, it seems that we do in fact belong to the sea.
3. LEARNING TO BE PATIENCE.
Surfers cannot practice their sport just whenever they want. They need to wait until they are able to go to the ocean and once in the water they need to wait for the wave. Also, not everyday conditions are perfect, so they need to accept that not every day they will surf the conditions they would love to. All these process make surfers be flexible people, people who accepts changes and who welcome everyday as it comes. Acceptance is one of the keys for a happy life!
4. FREE MIND.
While surfing, you need a lot of concentration. You need top ay attention to the waves, the ocean… This means no time to think about office, university or any problem at all. Your entire mind is going to be focused on one thing: the waves. This is a very positive exercise for leaving all your problems behind, feel free and happy.
5. LESS NEED OF MATERIAL THINGS.
A surfer is happy with the ocean and the waves; they spend many hours in the ocean with only a surf board and a wetsuit. Surfers do not need much more. This means a simple life and not buying many unnecessary things. The less you need the happier you are.
