Best countries in Europe for a Surf Vacation

Europe is full of surfing spots! In my opinion it would be worth to take a few months off and make a long trip to experience them all. However we all know that is not always possible.  Most of the times we have to choose one country at a time.

  1. FRANCE

France is famous for it beach breaks. Every yeah France holds the Quicksilver Pro event in Hossegor, a very famous surf spot most indicated for advanced surfers.

There are different beaches in the country for every different surf level. France is also famous for it cosy small villages. A really cool place is Biarritz. Classy and chic, Biarritz is an elegant and dynamic destination, both trendy and timeless.

Anglet is another location worth for a visit. There are 11 famous surf spots in the area which work during the whole year.

The only ugly point about France is that its one of the most expensive surfing destinations in Europe.

2. PORTUGAL

Our favourite destination! We love Portugal because it is an inexpensive destination that has a lot to offer!

You can immerse yourself in the history of the country by walking the streets of the different cities; you can escape from the crowds in long white sand beaches

The landscape if the country changes a lot from north to south, this means you will never get bored of the sightseeing.  North if Lisbon you will find nice surfing spots like Ericeira, Nazare, Peniche… All of them really worth for a visit , enjoy the waves, the food and the culture.

However our favourite area is Algarve. Algarve is famous for it pristine beaches, clear water, white sand…and there are many, MANY, surf spots for all levels.

Wavy Surf Camp is located in Algarve, specifically in Sagres. Sagres is a small village with the coolest surf vibe ever. The camp is surrounded by trees in a natural environment. Make sure you come for a visit!

3. SPAIN

Spain is an amazing country and you can find waves either in the north or in the south. Waves in the north are more consistent, landscape is greener, water is colder and weather is colder as well. In the north of Spain, the most famous surf spot is Mundaka, at the Basque country. You will find perfect waves of up to 12 feet, enjoyable for experienced surfers. But in the smaller days you will find suitable ones for intermediate surfers, too.

A nice spot for all levels, also in the north of the country is Zarautz (Basqe Country). This is a very friendly surf town in which you will find some party, waves and nice vibes.

Other nice spots are Somo, in Cantabria; Razo in Galicia…

In the south of Spain the surf is not that consistent but it can get very fun. Check out Tarifa, Conil, Barbate
